Anatomy
The printed artifact provides a visual structure to reinvent, with reference material such as old maps, books, sheet music and anatomical illustrations becoming a surface to play with.
In this series of medical illustrations, capillaries and veins have been machine stitched with coloured thread similar to that in the drawings, which comes away from the surface, making the images appear more alive, and tangible.
The work is a reference to the way a surgeon might use a sewing instrument such as a needle to physically repair or rebuild bodily, although in my use of the needle the paper matter as tissue physically deteriorates, and becomes more fragile.
